The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says a maximum security prisoner arrested for plotting to kill another inmate also hoped to assassinate Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Detectives arrested 29-year-old Samuel Matta Wednesday, an inmate in the state prison in Florence.

Road closures are a continued headache for drivers heading into Crown King. Thunderstorms on Saturday dumped 6 inches of rain on Crown King and caused a mudslide that forced the closure of Crown King Road, the main thoroughfare into town off Interstate 17.

A Maricopa County Superior Court judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging Governor Brewer's declarations of a state "Day of Prayer." Judge Eileen Willett granted a motion to dismiss with prejudice, meaning the court cannot be asked to rule on the same issue again.
