The Flagstaff community will honor Kayla Mueller at a candlelight vigil Feb. 14 at Northern Arizona University, her alma mater. Mueller died while being held hostage by the self-declared Islamic State in Syria. The vigil will be held at the Campus Ministry Center, where Mueller was actively involved.

People have placed dozens of flowers, balloons and signs on the corner of Prescott’s Courthouse Square, since the news of Kayla Mueller’s death was released Tuesday.

Prescott community members have also left flowers on the family’s driveway, where Kayla grew up. Students have have left messages and prayers for her at a gallery in the Communications building at NAU.

Her friends have created a website with a list of all of the causes Mueller fought for. The 26-year-old humanitarian worker was active most recently with an aid organization to provide support for Syrian refugees in Turkey, when she was captured by ISIS militants.

The Prescott community will hold a vigil Wednesday evening on Courthouse Square. The family has not set a date yet for the memorial service.
