The first lady of the United States will speak at Mesa Community College’s commencement ceremony next week.

Jill Biden will deliver her commencement address at Arizona State University’s Desert Financial Arena on Saturday, May 11.

A press release from the college pointed to Biden’s 30-plus years as a classroom teacher and her advocacy for higher education, particularly community colleges.

This is not the first time Biden has been a part of a Mesa Community College event. She came to Arizona in February 2023 to highlight affordable community college programs like Mesa College Promise, which offers eligible residents two years of paid tuition and fees at MCC.

More than 500 students will participate in the college’s 2023-24 graduation ceremony.

State Rep. Lorena Austin, an MCC alumna, will also speak at the event.
