More than 33,000 people in the city of Maricopa were without power Tuesday morning.

The major outage was reported around 8 a.m. in Pinal County’s Electrical District No. 3.

It affected Western Area Power Authority (WAPA) and Arizona Public Service (APS) customers. Electrical District No. 3 posted on its website, saying it was due to a transmission outage but gave no other details.

The message was later updated to say that transformers had been re-energized and power would be restored gradually.

Officers from the Maricopa Police Department were sent out to direct traffic while signals were down.

Power has been restored to most customers across Maricopa, including traffic signals and city facilities.
