Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs signed 30 bills into law this week, and vetoed five others.

One of the vetoed measures would have restricted internet access and cell-phone usage for students while in public schools. In a letter explaining her veto, Hobbs wrote that schools are already addressing cellphone use on campus, making the bill unnecessary.

State schools chief Tom Horne released a statement Friday criticizing the veto.

Horne claims that parents supported the ban, saying teachers shouldn’t have to put up with interference from the "invasion of mobile devices in schools."
