The city of Mesa is considering revising the fee structure for public records requests involving police videos.

Instead of the current flat fee of $25, those seeking copies of the videos would be charged $46 per hour of video reviewed by the staff handling the records request.

The police department recommended the change, which will be voted on by the City Council on Monday.

Ian Linssen is the assistant to the city manager.

“A couple of other surrounding communities has adopted this structure as well, but it would just be moving it from this flat fee to an hourly rate.”

According to Linssen, the Police Department is grappling with a backlog of requests for videos. If adopted, the new fee would go into effect on Tuesday.
