$90 million renovations continue on new Phoenix police headquarters
Crews are replacing the fire alarm and plumbing systems at the future headquarters for Phoenix police. The former Wells Fargo tower downtown will provide triple the space of the current location.
The first construction phase focuses on the top three floors of the 27-story building, where the 911 call center will be located. Right now, dispatchers work out of two locations, including a basement that has water leaks and other issues.
“The lighting is going to be able to be customizable, we’re going to have very comfortable, adjustable ergonomic furniture. In addition, there will be wellness and quiet rooms available to the staff, as well as new break room facilities,” said Jeremy Legg, special projects manager.
Construction on the 911 center is expected to be substantially complete by summer 2024. When Phoenix bought the tower for $46.5 million in late 2021, it estimated spending another $90 million in renovations.
“We think this space is not only going to be functional and secure but a nice benefit of being at the top of a high-rise building is you get really great views, and so, we think this will be not only a functional space for this work group butt something that I aspire to help with recruitment and retention,” Legg said.
During an update to council members in December, Legg said design is also complete for floors 2-25.
