The Tempe Union High School District has entered into an agreement with the Salvation Army. The goal is to offer more support to the district’s struggling families.

Pathway of Hope is a case management program that meets families where they are and helps get them where they want to go.

LyOna Wallick coordinates the program for the Salvation Army Southwest Division. She said many families come to the organization in need of a stable income.

“So that means connecting them with agencies who can do resume writing or job training, interview skills, workshops, those sorts of things to help either get a job or progress in their job," Wallick said.

She says the agreement with Tempe Union allows the district to direct families to them who are experiencing undue stress or hardship.

“The school can only do so much on their end and so by connecting them with us, we’re able to give them another person who is in their corner to help them with whatever they may need," Wallick said.

She said the Salvation Army will provide services to those families at no cost.
