The 10th annual National Immigrant Integration Conference, or NIIC, starts Sunday in downtown Phoenix.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton will help open the three-day event, which will bring together  immigrant and refugee rights supporters from all over the country.

NIIC participants will work on strategies to protect and strengthen immigrant communities. They’ll also develop ways to fuse immigrants into U.S. society.

NIIC’s theme this year is “And Justice for All.”

“I think what it means is people working together to support one another so that everyone can live to their potential and live their dream as residents, as members of our country,” said Petra Falcon, executive director of Promise Arizona, which is co-hosting NIIC.

Promise Arizona works closely with the National Partnership for New Americans, which is sponsoring NIIC. The groups are part of an ongoing national effort to get eligible people to apply for citizenship.
