The border wall in San Diego is composed of bollard style fencing that builds out into the Pacific Ocean.

California’s attorney general Xavier Becerra announced the lawsuit Wednesday. He accused the Trump administration of not complying with federal environmental laws when it waived restrictions in order to build new border fences along two sections of San Diego’s border with Mexico.

The administration announced it was waiving environmental restrictions in two areas within California in which it would be replacing existing border barriers.

In part, the attorney general's office argues that the Trump administration is attempting to build new border barriers at a time when they’re not needed because illegal immigration has dropped.

Becerra also argued that California’s own environment around the border region and the state’s tourism would be impacted by new border barriers.
