Nearly 500 Arrested In Cross-Border Drug Sting

The United States and Mexico have announced a drug interdiction operation in both countries that resulted in the arrests of nearly 500 people.

Over a two week period in April, the U.S. Border Patrol and Mexico arrested 467 people and seized more than 12 tons of marijuana. The operation, dubbed Operation Double Threat, focused on the border region around Nogales, Arizona and Sonora.

The Border Patrol said as a result of the operation, illegal entries through Nogales dropped by nearly half. Operations involving both countries are unusual but have increased in frequency over the past several years along the border. In January, Mexico launched a major raid in a Mexican border town by stationing its federal police in Arizona.
