The national Border Patrol union's recent endorsement of Donald Trump's presidential bid is being challenged by a group of agents in Texas, and they're getting public support from politicians in Texas and New Mexico.

A group of dissenting agents in El Paso, Texas across from Juárez, Mexico, says it does not believe their national union's endorsement of Trump reflects the values of agents on the border. 

Twenty-one Democratic politicians in Texas and New Mexico, among them New Mexico State Representative Bill Mccamley, have sent a letter to the El Paso local union saying they support the agents' wish to distance themselves from the endorsement.

"The rhetoric that Trumps gives to people is really harmful to our area," Democratic New Mexico State Representative Bill McCamley told the Fronteras Desk.

The letter he and other politicians signed claims that Trump demeans immigrants and has, "lied about the threats" on the border to advance his campaign.

National union Vice President Shawn Moran says the union respects the opinions of all members, and that the endorsement is based on Trump's border policies and nothing else.
