A Mexican man died while in custody at the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Florence.

ICE said Juan Garcia-Hernandez, a 39-year-old Mexican citizen, passed away at a hospital in Florence after collapsing outside the medical unit at the detention center. An autopsy is pending.

Garcia-Hernandez was given a final order of removal after failing to leave the U.S. voluntarily last year. In June he was granted a one year stay of removal for humanitarian reasons, according to ICE.

He was taken into custody at the end of August because that stay had expired, and was waiting to be sent back to Mexico when he died Monday.

The government agency said it coordinated with the Mexican consulate to notify the man’s next of kin. Garcia-Hernandez is the seventh detainee to die in ICE custody this fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30.
